Teaching Innovation

Heikki Hietala (Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences)

Innovation isn't a gift, nor a talent. It's a skill that can be taught and learned. In my teaching, I aim at bringing my students to the core issue - need. Talking about personal innovation, a process to handle a need the students themselves can identify, research, design, and solve, is much more effective than talking about generic innovation and successful past cases like mobile phones, or apps, and the like.
