PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Afbeelding Public Transportation

Bus/Tram

A bit too far off? Or just feeling like a pause from the walking and biking? Being a student at University College Ghent has a lot of advantages, including a reduced rate to ride the bus or tram.

A yearly subscription to the bus- and tramway service De Lijn without student reduction costs:

  • € 178 (Buzzy Pass – age up to 24)
  • € 232 (Omnipas – age from 25)

The moment you are subscribed as a student at University College Ghent, you can claim a student discount of 35% on the price of your yearly subscription. Which brings the amount to:

  • € 115,7 (Buzzy Pass – age up to 24)
  • € 150,8 (Omnipas – age from 25)

The real deal is that these give you unlimited access to the public transportation (bus/tram) in the whole of Flanders (and parts of Brussels).

Once you are registered as a student of University College Ghent you will gain access to the forms which you can present at a booth of ‘De Lijn’ for your subscription request.

Train

If you reside outside the city of Ghent, but close to a train station with a connection to Ghent you can opt for a train subscription. Belgian Rail offers a student subscription for either one month, three months or one year at a reduced rate. Be aware that this only counts for a fixed route.

If you only come and go once a week, a campus card might be a better choice.

As a youngster (18-24) you can buy a Go Pass which allows you to travel anywhere in Belgium at a fixed (cheap!) rate per journey. This might be useful if you consider extending your horizons to other cities in Flanders.
