The specific objective of the specialisation Medical Laboratory Technology is to acquire the necessary competences to function in a medical (clinical) laboratory that analyses human samples.

The objective of the specialisation Pharmaceutical and Biological Techniques is to acquire competences in the field of biological (bio-technological) and pharmaceutical technology. For medical laboratory scientists, the roles include medical laboratory scientist in medical (clinical) laboratories, in education and in the commercial sector. Pharmaceutical and biological scientists can be deployed in research laboratories or the commercial sector, as pharmaceutical assistants in private or hospital pharmacies and in education.

The attainment targets of the specialisation medical laboratory scientist are as follows:
- ability to take and correctly process a sample of venous and capillary blood in a safe manner;
- ability to label the samples and process them administratively;
- ability to analyse the samples of human origin for clinical chemical research; ability to analyse the inorganic and organic components;
- ability to carry out a general hematological examination; help implement molecular techniques; carry out a general or introductory hemostasis examination; isolate and identify germs from clinical samples;
- ability to trace infections using serological techniques;
- ability to help in in-vivo measurements by using radionuclides, among others.

The attainment targets for the specialisation pharmaceutical and biological laboratory technology are as follows:
- ability to carry out molecular-biological examinations;
- carry out gene cloning and recombination techniques;
- ability to carry out the ground work for growing cell lines and tissues; ability to prepare culture media;
- ability to start and maintain cell and/or tissue cultures;
- ability to help in pharmacological research;
- ability to carry out toxicological research;
- ability to analyse, understand and interpret a medical prescription;
- ability to inform the customer/patient about the use and effect of the drug/pharmaceutical product, use and application of the range on the fringe and of OTC products and about the conditions for storage;
- ability to make magistral and officinal preparations, to prepare drugs in accordance with the protocols;
- ability to manage the patient administration.

A Bachelor (Ba) of Bio-Medical Laboratory Technology can, after the successful completion of a bridging program (between 45 and 90 credits), gain access to the following Master Programs:

   only for graduates in Pharmaceutical and Biological Laboratory Technology
