There is an increasing need for well-educated specialists in animal care and animal welfare, working in animal care centres, zoological gardens and animal parks, breeding farms, veterinary and animal feed industry. Within this programme the student’s knowledge of ethology (behaviour), diseases, preventive care, veterinary assistant techniques, breeding, housing and hygiene, etc. is developed.
These studies are related to the social care for a greener environment and sustainable management. The student is trained in environmental management, public parks and gardens and garden design. Horticultural studies were mostly focused on the cultivation of vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants. Today, the knowledge of the horticulturalist is expanded with modern insights in plant breeding, in vitro culture, biological and integrated control and business coaching.
Students are taught how to manage the growth and well-being of animals and plants in a context of healthy food production with the highest quality. The courses are related to animal and plant breeding techniques, mechanisation, fertilization, primary processing and animal nourishment. Legislation on environmental, health and quality assurance issues is included in the programme to ensure that students will manage agricultural processes according to modern standards.
This bachelor degree explores the entire production chain of food products. All sectors of the food industry are discussed. To develop qualitative and safe food products, knowledge on food technology, process control, food analysis, food preservation, quality assurance, product development and sensory evaluation are necessary and therefore key topics of this study programme.
