Mining bee.

Mining bee - Andrena

Mining bees make their nests underground. Each bee digs its own little burrow – they’re solitary creatures, not part of a hive or colony. That also means they’re not aggressive and almost never sting. What they do very well, though, is pollinate flowers, trees, and shrubs.

The grasslands around the HOGENT-sports hall are a perfect home for these little pollinators. That’s why we keep the area sandy and pesticide-free, to help the mining bees thrive and to enjoy even more natural beauty on our campus.
