Conditions
Applicants must at the beginning of academic year:
- be enrolled at HOGENT with a degree contract for a minimum of 27 credits
- be eligible for child benefit or be under 25 years of age
- have not yet exceeded the maximum duration of stay in a HOGENT residence. The maximum duration of a stay at a student residence is equal to the foreseen study duration of the standard graduate’s, bachelor’s or master’s programme upon the student's first enrolment at HOGENT, in every case extended by one academic year. Each academic year for which the student was previously enrolled at an institution of higher education is also taken into account when calculating the maximum duration indicated above.
You do not need to be enrolled at HOGENT at the time of application. The application is not binding. We do ask you to inform us by e-mail if the application may be dropped.
Priority rules
In residence Mercator D, international students are given priority for a limited number of student rooms. If you wish to register for another residence, please be aware that the general priority rules apply there:
- Students who already have a room will be given priority over new applicants as long as they have not exceeded the maximum duration of a stay in a HOGENT student residence.
- Scholarship and near scholarship students are given priority over students who are not scholarship-eligible.
- Generation students are given priority over students who have previously attended higher education.
From 1 April 2026 at 9:00 AM, anyone who meets the requirements can apply for a room for the 2026-2027 academic year via the link below. Once your application is registered, you will receive a confirmation email. Please read it carefully.
Preferences
When submitting your application, you can select up to 3 room preferences. You may receive what you apply for, so don’t request a room type or residence you really don’t want. If you are assigned a room but decline it, you will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list again.
Once you have submitted an online application, you will be placed on the waiting list. Room assignments will start on 4 May. If you are allocated a room, the Housing Service will contact you.
No room available for you? You will remain on the waiting list until you get a room. From 11 May onwards, you can request your position on the waiting list via huisvesting@hogent.be.
Have you found a student room elsewhere in the meantime? Please notify the Housing Service via the above email address, and we will remove you from the waiting list.
Available rooms will be allocated on the 5th of May. Are you among the lucky ones? Then you will also immediately receive the rental agreement and internal regulations by email. The rental agreement must be signed digitally within 7 days.
Rooms are rented for a standard period of twelve months.
The internal regulations provide detailed information on rental terms, early termination, room usage, location details, safety rules, visiting arrangements, and more. By signing the rental agreement, you confirm that you fully accept the rules and conditions outlined in the internal regulations.
You pay a €400 security deposit together with your first rent invoice. The deposit will be reimbursed after your stay if you leave the room behind in a clean condition.
HOGENT as lessor is insured against fire and related perils. All HOGENT rooms are fully furnished with a bed (200x90cm), mattress, wardrobe, desk, desk chair, and curtains, and are equipped with internet access and a washbasin.
