  • 37 single rooms (12m2) with shared provisions. The toilets, showers, kitchen and living rooms are shared with other students.
  • Rental price in academic year 2026-2027: €2.420 for one semester (costs for electricity, gas, water and internet included).

  • Located on campus Mercator and at a walking distance from campus Bijloke, approximately approximately 1.7 kilometres from the city centre of Ghent.

  • Rental price in academic year 2026-2027: €2.420 for one semester (costs for electricity, gas, water and internet included).

IMPORTANT: The listed rental prices do not include the student room tax that the City of Ghent will impose as of January 2027. The rates of this tax can be consulted on the website of the City of Ghent. This tax will be added to the rental prices below. We will communicate shortly about how the tax will be invoiced. The route to
your HOGENT room.

Different conditions apply for student residence Mercator D and Eddies Vesalius, as the first is managed by HOGENT itself, while the latter is managed by our partner Eddies.

Mercator D

  • You are officially nominated by your home institution to study at HOGENT University (KASK and School of Arts included) for the duration of one semester or one academic year.
  • You are younger than 25 years old at the start of the rental agreement.

Eddies

  • You are officially nominated by your home institution to study at HOGENT University (KASK and School of Arts included) for the duration of one semester or one academic year.

From Wednesday 1 April 2026 at 9:00 a.m., you can apply for a room in the first semester of the academic year 2026–2027.

Please note that submitting the application form does not guarantee a room, as there is a high demand for accommodation at our student residence.

Room preferences

When submitting your application, you can select up to 2 preferences for a residence. Please note:

  • The broader your preferences, the greater the chance that a room will become available for you.
  • Whatever you apply for, you may be allocated. So do not select options you truly do not want.
  • If you are offered a room but decline it, you will be placed back at the bottom of the waiting list.

Depending on your exchange programme, it is possible to rent a HOGENT student room for the duration of one semester or two semesters:

  • from September until January
  • from February until June
  • from September until June

The exact period of the rental agreement will be communicated by the Housing service once the rooms are allocated.

The student rooms are allocated by the International Office of HOGENT, usually one week after the registration deadline. For more information on the allocation procedure or registration deadline, please contact our International Office via incoming@hogent.be (HOGENT) or els.moens@hogent.be (School of Arts).

If no room is currently available for you, you will remain on the waiting list until one becomes available. Have you found accommodation elsewhere in the meantime? Please inform the Housing Service via huisvesting@hogent.be, and we will remove you from the waiting list.

If you are one of the selected students, you will immediately receive the rental agreement and the internal regulations by email. The rental agreement must be signed digitally within 7 days.

The internal regulations provide more information about the rental conditions, early termination, use of the room, the inventory report, safety regulations, visitor policy, and more. By signing the tenancy agreement, you fully agree to the provisions set out in the internal regulations. You can find the internal regulations here:

Right after the allocation of the student rooms, the students who received their room confirmation will also receive an invitation to pay the security deposit of €400 for their student room. The deposit which will be reimbursed after your stay if you leave the room behind in a clean condition.

HOGENT University as lessor is insured against fire and related perils. Tenant liability on behalf of the students is additionally insured in HOGENT's fire policy, namely when no other policy intervenes (for example, the fire policy of the students' parents). Students are responsible for insuring their personal belongings themselves.

All HOGENT rooms are fully furnished  with a bed (200x90cm), mattress, wardrobe, desk, desk chair, and curtains, and are equipped with internet access, a small fridge and a wash basin.

What you need to bring with you:

  • Bed linen and towels
  • Cooking utensils (such as plates, cutlery, pots and pans, mugs,…)
  • Cleaning utensils for your own room
